Fellas what do we want? Bigger muscles, less stress and better sex. Yea yea I’m sure that’s very stereotypical but it’s also the truth we can’t hide from. Not only that, it’s also why each of those categories are respectively billion-dollar industries.
When you hear the word testosterone what comes to mind? Is it the beating of a chest? Is it the negative stigma? Or one’s sex drive? Believe it or not, all will deeply seep into the conversation we are having here.
Okay so let us settle the question, what is testosterone? In short, it’s a sex hormone that plays an important role in the body. In men specifically, it’s thought to regulate sex drive, bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass/strength, and the production of red blood cells and sperm.
Hmm, So What’s That Mean for Us As Men?
Well, on average we hear the word being thrown around in association with our personality, our levels of emotion, and of course, our individual masculinity. However, we rarely take the time out to understand how it works and how it can truly benefit us inside and outside the bedroom.
Another variant of this topic I hear getting thrown around is age. The message we’ve been lectured is that the older you get, the less testosterone you have which in theory, leads to complications that can make us feel less, “manly”.
From a scientific and biological standpoint, it’s true. Production increases during puberty and starts to decrease after about age 30. It’s not a drastic change however, just a dip that averages around 1% per year. With such a small decrease, what’s all the hype about then? Why should you be concerned with the ins and outs of your masculine energy? And if you are amongst the group who worries about the development of his manhood, what can you do about it?
Without further ado, let’s dive into the areas we feel this hormone coursing through us the most. Like how its production builds your masculine edge, strengthens your manhood, and powers a godlike sex drive.
What Are Some Benefits to Having A Sharper Masculine Edge?
- More confidence on a day to day basis
- More direction and intentionality towards loved ones or a significant other.
- More fulfilling sex life.
- Increased ability to build muscle mass, strength, and hardness.
- More balance on the scale between light and dark masculine energy.
- Lowered body fat percentage.
Alright so now that we know the benefits, how do you know if your levels fall short? Well gentlemen, in short, the answer to that becomes painfully obvious for us.
It might seem vain, but to me, an integral part of being a man consists of both the tangibles and intangibles. A mix of being strong, being able to have that body image I’ve always wanted as sense of accomplishment towards the work put in. On the other side being able to lead my household and confidently lead the woman I decide to be with is important to me. And if that’s not convincing, going through struggles of gynecomastia (man boobs), low sex drive, possible erectile dysfunction, and the inability to tap into both light and dark masculine energy which is crucial to the well roundedness of a man. Whew... that just doesn’t sound like a good deal to me.
But wait there’s a flip side, experiencing too much testosterone production doesn’t fair well for the body and mind either without proper supplementation. Excess testosterone can lead to more aggressive and irritable behavior, more acne and oily skin, even worse sleep apnea.
So, where’s the middle ground? Well I’m happy to give you 3 main or most popular benefits of this powerful sex hormone.
- Build More Muscle
Does it really help you build more muscle mass? To put it simply, yes it does. Testosterone has both androgenic and anabolic effects. Not to get too scientific but here’s what I mean:
Androgenic effect includes maturation of sex organs, growth of beard and other body hairs, deepening of voice, etc. Anabolic effects of testosterone include growth in muscle mass and strength, increased bone density, and stimulation of linear growth.
Basically, higher levels help you build up some of those muscles you lack (ok I’ll be nice, the muscles you feel you lack). In addition, there’s a multitude of ways you can increase this hormone naturally. Here’s a few standouts below.
*Disclaimer: There’s absolutely nothing wrong with choosing to take supplements or anabolic agents that boost testosterone in a synthetic fashion. From years of studying and marketing supplemental science I've learned there’s virtually pros and cons to everything. With any decision to put something synthetic in your body, be sure to do your proper due diligence and research the product front and back. Don’t just go off what a buddy of yours did or what a gym rat recommends. It’s your body, do the research to honor your instrument properly. Now back to regular programming.
Supplements I Highly Recommend:
- Maca Root: Succinctly put, maca powder has been used for centuries to boost fertility and sex drive, and there’s research to back it up. It boosts libido and testosterone levels, it’s a natural energy booster, and great for prostate health. But keeping it real, the bedroom is where this will show up the most. I usually get mine from here and for a great price.
- TestONE: In my experience, I’ve felt and gotten to some of my best gains and overall mood when taking this. TestONE is a natural booster that helps to improve in all the areas we’ve talked about so far, especially muscle mass and fat loss. Not only that, it has two big standout ingredients, (Ashwagandha and Bulbine Natalensis), that makes this apart of my daily ritual. While Bulbine increases libido and stamina, Ashwagandha reduces cortisol, anxiety, fatigue levels, all while boosting test naturally.
- D-Aspartic Acid: This may be one of the most low-key supplements out there for men. It's been shown in several studies to effectively increase your testosterone levels while improving the quality of your sperm. Combined with a healthy diet and regimented exercise program, D-Aspartic Acid may also be effective in increasing your levels of lean muscle mass. To see the best results, you should take 6 grams per day.
- Conquer Stress
Using the word “conquer” is admittedly a bit presumptuous to say seeing as how stress isn’t something you conquer, nor should you be trying to. What do I mean by this? A few things. Despite how much we can damn near despise stress and wish for a smooth ride in this adventure of life, stress is what literally makes it an adventure.
I’ve mentioned in another blog that we as men, and as humans, are always facing entropy. Many times, we catch ourselves wanting to do nothing, and not apply the effort we know is needed for certain goals while relaxing in the state of complacency. There’s just one problem with that, eventually we start to decline both physically and mentally in retrospect. Once that happens, anxiety, sadness, and eventually, depression will start to invite themselves into your headspace.
Ever wondered why this happens? It’s because as much as some of us hate to admit it, we thrive on facing challenges and conquering them. Think about it, think about the last time you were faced with something that without a doubt scared you, tested you, and wound up as a notch in your win column. How did you feel afterward? Better yet, take a second to reminisce how your level of self-confidence strengthened.
In short, although not so short, conquering stress doesn’t mean defeating it. It means to take control, not by egotistically attempting to control it, which is impossible, but by fiercely controlling your perspective of it; thus, conquering it.
How Does Testosterone Play into This?
Here comes the catch twenty-two. When our bodies feel stress coursing through it, it creates what’s called cortisol. Very natural, but for us men it hits us a lot harder. If testosterone is the hero in this story, cortisol can be considered the passive aggressive villain. I’m quite sure you’ve heard that men tend to struggle more with complications such as high blood pressure and heart disease. Well one of the advocates of those complications is cortisol.
The same way I’ve boasted about the important role that stress plays in our lives, so does the idea I mentioned of conquering it. When those cortisol levels in men continue to increase, it fluctuates and alters our mood, we’re more prone to the build up of bodyfat, and our libido or bedroom dominance takes a deep dive to the bottom. Yep, that sucks. Good news is, we have enough equipment in the arsenal to stand the champion in this conquest.
By following what’s been recommended so far, you already have a leg up over the average joe (no offense if your name is Joe). Aside from the supplements mentioned, you know what really lowers cortisol’s defenses? Exercise, or more specifically, lifting heavy ass weights. There’s something cathartic about unleashing the beast inside of us under the squat rack or bench press.
Ah, Of Course Working Out is the Answer
With me being a clear advocate of fitness, having a bias towards being active to mitigate stress is somewhat cliché. However, on the subject of becoming the healthy, masculine balanced beast we envision, being fit plays a monumental role. Don’t believe me?
Think about the last time you found yourself eating fast food and junk over the course of a couple days. Mentally it was fulfilling to fill your body with the extra fat and sugar; but overall, we can estimate that your mood, energy, and motivation was for lack of a better word, shitty. That’s because our little friend cortisol not only thrives in stress, but also in crappy refined foods that end up just being empty calories.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a great cheat meal as much as the next person. In fact, my appetite is probably a lot bigger than the average size, not a bragging point though. The word that always pops up in my mind and keeps me from going off the deep end with the bad foods I love, is discipline. And in the conversation of increased testosterone, discipline is strongly on our side if we allow it to be.
So, to summarize, how do we conquer stress?
- First, realize it’s not about getting rid of stress completely but conquering the effort you’re putting towards keeping it at bay with you in the driver’s seat.
- Unleash the beast inside by lifting heavy and exercising often. One of the best ways to keep from increasing your body fat percentage and walking around with man boobs, is to develop strong muscle, hardness, and a healthy heart.
- Eating healthy does wonders for both stress and testosterone. Maintain a diet with a good amount of greens, complex carbs, protein, and fruit. Try it for at least a couple weeks and you’ll feel like a new man.
- Have Better Sex
At last we come to the grand poobah, the eye-catching benefit that in most cases can make a man feel as if he’s the king of his domain. You’ll have those who will say, “you shouldn’t place such an emphasis on sex” or “that shouldn’t be the reason a man feels like a king”, blah blah.
In a literal sense of course, no one should be driven to only feel a high state of bliss and euphoria through a single form, even if it’s sex. But I’m a realist as much as I am an idealist. Just because one thing shouldn’t be the sole point of view, that doesn’t overlook the power that it holds.
Remember earlier when I mentioned the importance of having a balance of masculine energy? I meant the sweet spot between light and dark energy found within both men and women. For the sake of not straying too far from the point, I’ll focus on how healthy levels of testosterone in men help to keep one from venturing too deeply into one side or the other. Although I can confidently say, women may find benefit in this portion of the article as well.
What is Light Masculine Energy?
When I refer to light, I’m speaking towards the playful, passive, compassionate, loving side of things. A man who is fully embraced in this type of energy may have more passive aggressive traits, prone to taking the gentle approach in most situations if not all, and will look to keep things smooth and playful in hopes to avoid confrontation and disrupted peace with his significant other.
This energy is the side of you that wants to offer the massages, maintain sensuality in the bedroom, and keep eye contact during sex as a means to strengthen a deeper connection.
Then What’s Dark Masculine Energy?
This isn’t as daunting as the name may suggest, there’s a powerful energy associated with this side of the equation. Being concise, these traits consist of one being dominant, in control, selfish, aggressive, and intentional. A man who fully embraces this energy isn’t shy about his wants, intentions, and shines better when they can be in the driver’s seat of most situations.
In short, this energy is the side of you that wants to take her against the wall unleashing the beast inside showing her exactly what you want and how you want it.
Now I won’t preach too much on how you should always aim to live life towards the balance of both energies for all time. I believe it’s more advantageous to teeter on one side or the other depending on the situation.
Too much light energy and you’ll appear as a pushover or even in some cases, overly emotional and passive. Too much dark energy and it comes across as unattractively abrasive and uncomfortably controlling. However, given the extremities, as a man you’ll need to be able to tap into either one of these when the time calls for it. That’s where healthy testosterone comes in. Low levels can slowly push you too deeply into the light side, while high levels nudge you deeply towards the dark.
If the goal is to have better sex, doesn’t it sound better to call upon these two powers and establish oneself as the king of his emotional center, his domain? The simple answer is yes. It’s a lot clearer now, that your energy output and fulfillment affects others in the same sense it affects you. And hey, that’s a good thing! When we’re motivated intrinsically to change things because of the people we care about, we’re more likely to stick to it and through it.
So, What Can I Do to Increase Both Energies to Have Better Sex?
- Be Intentional
You know what increases the test within a man in an intangible sense? Getting shit done and being purposeful about it. Make firm decisions and stop settling in matters of your integrity. Lead the way in the bedroom and watch how those levels increase and surge through you.
- Have an Unapologetic Sexual Desire
Being a man with integrated masculinity means being comfortable in who you are and what satisfies you. Work through any emotional or mental blocks when it comes to this and without a doubt, you’ll feel a huge sense of freedom and confidence.
- Don’t Forget to Show Love and Affection
Love and compliment the woman you’re with. Sounds a lot like light energy doesn’t it? That’s because it is, as I’ve said before both are important. Kiss her on the forehead, show your appreciation of her presence, make dinner for her. Be the man she desires.
The Importance of Healthy Testosterone
I’m quite sure this blog went a lot differently than one might’ve expected given the simplicity of the title. But vagueness doesn’t get us extremely far and neither does giving the same type of tips we hear on an almost daily basis. Whether it’s through social media, commercials, or some Viagra based company that over stretches their ability to make you feel like a “stronger man.” Being a man is a lot more complex than what the world of media would have us believe it is. Therefore, it’s important to have a realistic playbook we can stick to in hopes of developing our masculine energy, our healthy physiques, and fulfilled sex life.
Over time as the world, and life itself evolves, so must we. Walking around with a beer gut and a disregard toward your health isn’t going to fly anymore. Being super fit with washboard abs isn’t what makes you more attractive, it’s the idea that you’re willing to be intentional about the way you live your life and the way you show up in the world.
Take the reigns back on the way stress has controlled your life and mindset. Take control of your health by consuming good supplements daily, adding more greens to your diet, and slowing down the foods high in sodium and sugar. Try the more realistic 80/20 approach, which is 80% healthy and 20% not so healthy.
Lastly, take control of the way you show up in the bedroom. You’ll become more confident and your partner will appreciate your drive and reach a new level of attraction towards you. We deserve to reach our full potential and hopefully I’ve outlined some strong ways to do it.
Dedicated to your fulfillment,
